11 months old

I’m 11 months old now. And if you’re good at maths, that’s 1 more month to my birthday. Ohhh what joy! But getting back to here and now … I loved the life of being a baby. It gets easier every time. A recap of the past month goings on.

Movement wise, I’m a bit slow on 2s, fast in a walker and even faster on 4s. Being mobile is the greatest thing that ever happened to me. I can run (crawl?) away from my siblings to my parents, if they were trying to catch me. Or I can approach them if I want to play together.

I eat anything now, just as long as it’s swallow-able. Biscuits and crackers are still my favourites because I can bite little pieces off. I finished off 1kg of powdered milk in less than 2 weeks, usually it takes 4.

My motor skills are adequate … for now. Picking up things and putting them back are a doodle. Returning toys to outstretched hands are a natural for me. Recently, mama’s trying to drill me to some clapping motion but my hands felt heavy to close them together again. Oh well, practice, practice, practice.

The way home : Day 3

Prelude: The night before, I was in a walking frenzy. Why? I don’t know why, I just felt like walking. I did 5 steps here, 3 steps there, a few steps in between. Tok Din and Nek Jah, after witnessing my “showing off”, finally agreed that I could walk but only if I wanted too. They got that right … hihihihi.

The last day, the day to return home was uneventful. We managed a side trip to a small mall before we bade adieu to Melaka. Everyone was tired and the 3 of us slept most of the way home. Tok Din wanted to reach the causeway before 3pm to beat the holiday makers’ jam and this time it worked. We smoothed through both checkpoints and reached home by 2.30pm.

What a trip. Wish you were there.

Security upgrade

Papa has started baby-proofing (is this even legal?) the house. My curiosity with opening doors, drawers and boxes is just too much for them to handle. The whole family seems to be running around, scolding me, and giving me the angry face ... what’s up with that? ... I would just continue opening things anyway. It is fun, don't you think.

Chendol Affair : Day 2

I think the highlight of this day must have been the chendol trip. But I’ll come to that story later.

After a nice breakfast, papa wanted to bring us down to pool. But mama wouldn’t let me go because I haven’t done my “business” for the morning yet. She was afraid there would be a chemical spill in the pool if I did do my business eventually. So I had to stay in the room whilst my sibling had fun at the pool…drattsssss. And judging by this picture, I knew I was missing a lot … Double drattsss.

Now the chendol story:
Tok Din wanted to show papa and mama about this chendol stall having the best chendol in the world! Me thinks Tok Din is exaggerating a bit but with an intro like that papa and mama couldn’t resist wanting to have a taste of it. So off we went in search of this “power” chendol. After 45 minutes and passing a few towns, papa went off the idea of wanting this “raved” drink. Papa said the chendol better be worth the long journey.

When we finally reached the stall … and it was not there! Everyone’s jaw dropped like a stone. Luckily, another chendol stall was opened and touted as also having the same exquisite taste chendol as the missing one, as proclaimed by Tok Din of course … whom I think was trying to soften the blow. So we had a few bowls and it was good. I ate the green slimy thingy and wanted more of it. Big sis finished off at least 3 bowls. What a reprieve for Tok Din. The long journey was not all wasted.

Sorry no pictures, because all of us were too busy eating till we forgot to take photos. The only photo we had of that trip was this. What you’re looking at is the biggest and longest trailer, carrying the biggest and longest metal cylinder on a main road. It is so big, it took both roads. Scary scene this and only in Malaysia.

After driving back to the city and spending time at a big shopping mall, we went down to the famous “ikan bakar” place for our dinner. I was told by big bro that without fail, any family trip to Melaka must involve going to this grilled seafood place.

Now I see why when I saw everyone tucking to food that made my mouth salivate too.

Time to walk

During the time that I visited Nek Jah, I had the opportunity to coach Alya in the fine art of walking. You know to hone her walking skills so that she can break Along’s record. She already has the right equipment to practice on, her push-car. What luck … hihihihi.

I got her on the car and showed to her the nuance of proper walking techniques for a few seconds. Telling her how to move and coordinate her feet and so on.

Then I asked her to do the same, with me on the car now. This time we did it for a few minutes to get her in the right frame … snigger …. She’s getting good, I might say ... snigger, snigger … My coaching has been excellent … hahahaha … and I’ve got free rides to boot too … hihihihi.

Sayang Nek Jah

I just came back from visiting Nek Jah. She had a fall yesterday and now sports a shiner on her left eye, the size of a golf ball. It looks bad, really bad but at least she went to consult the doctor already. They’ll know what to do.

Get well Nek Jah. Love Ilya … and also Izza and Amir.

Melaka Trip : Day 1

Mama and papa had planned this journey for the long weekend. And so in the morning of 14th of April, we left the house early to beat the holiday makers’ rush at the Causeway. But I think everybody had the same idea because we were still caught in the causeway “holiday” jam.

The journey to Melaka was done in 2 bounds. We stopped at a place called Tangkak because mama wanted to see new fabrics for curtains. The place was hot. Luckily by the
5th store, mama had found what she wanted and we left for Melaka. As always, I spend the long hours sleeping.

Another 1.5hrs later and through heavy rain, we finally reached our destination, Riviera Hotel. The place looks whitish and biggish. After a short rest, we went out to have our first real meal i.e. dinner. Returned to our family suite, and got ourselves ready for the night since it was still pouring outside.

As always, big bro and sis brought their gameboys along to keep themselves busy. Typical.

Ilya’s Big Movie

Today, our family went to cinema. This is my first movie of my entire life. Papa told us that the show was called Ice Age 2. I was very excited at the prospect of seeing loads of ice cream for a movie…yum … yum.

After a quick lunch, we entered a dark place with rows of seat. We waited awhile when suddenly the whole place was filled with sound. Loud and blaring noise, I would say. Then pictures started to move on a wall in front of us. My mouth dropped at the size of the screen, it’s bigger than the one at home.

Then everything started to confuse and worry me. The loud sound and moving pictures overwhelmed me and I started to agitate a bit. Mama quickly calmed me down with her milk. So, with one eye on the screen, I continued to watch the movie about a hairy elephant.

Somehow I felt asleep during the show and woke only to see the ending of the movie. Who could blame me; there wasn’t a single ice cream in the movie at all. What a lame movie.

All in all, mama said that I was well behaved and she might bring me along for another show the next time round.

Party for Two

Yesterday, we went to Asu’s house to celebrate the twins Shukur and Shukri birthday. All my cuzins were there including NurIbrahim.

Alang brought along an ice cream cake which looks so good. I didn’t get any but what the hey; at least I joined in the rousing rendition of the Birthday song.

Happy Birthday once again from us.

Curious discovery

Mama and Papa are now at lost with me.

With my increased agility and mobility, I can go everywhere and anywhere. And I learnt that for some furniture, I can actually twist or pull or push to open them. This by far is the greatest discovery which I found to be exciting and fruitful.

There is so many different stuff or things I can find by opening this door, that drawer or those sliding things. Sometimes I get away with opening a door and grabbing things out before I was found. But most times, mama will have my other siblings to keep an eye out for me … hihihihihi.

But not every time this opening spree works out for me. Sometimes there are painful episodes when my fingers get caught on a door or a drawer and it really hurts. But somehow, I forget the pain and do it again. Maybe, curiosity will get the baby flat fingers too … hihihihi.

Get well Alya

My cuzin Alya has been sick these past few days. Her tummy couldn’t handle any food/milk. She lost so much weight and water that she was hospitalized for the night.

We hope you get well soon Alya from big bro Amir, big sis Izza and me.

10 months old & 5 days old

I’m 10 months old now. Its time to consolidate which targets were met and which ones were not.

• I am able to walk small steps.
• I said the words “Papa”, “Baba” and “Aba”
• I can easily stand up and sit down by myself.
• I’m ambidextrous when holding things.
• My upper teeth still refuse to grow.
• I can’t keep still whilst eating.
• I like opening things up. (story coming later)

Impressive, isn’t? Well, I do think so myself … hihihihi.
